Frequently Asked Questions

What type of job opportunities are available to someone looking to work with animals?

If you want a career in working with animals, there are a lot of options! A zoo, animal park, or aquarium are three obvious choices but you can also consider the humane society, a veterinarian, pet shop or a kennel. Each state has an agency that concentrates on wildlife management and conservation (Division of Wildlife, Dept. of Natural Resources, Fish & Game Dept., etc.) and the United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS; web site www.fws.gov) employs many people that work with animals.

Additionally, there are many wildlife rehabilitation centers in the United States and around the world. Biologists and researchers also study wildlife, and many of them work with the state wildlife departments and the USFWS. Animal trainers work with animals for the entertainment industry — either in animal parks or on their own training animals for TV commercials, ads, and movies.
