Day Three - Today, we were up early for a plane ride over to Brooks Camp where the U.S. Park Service is based.

I'm not sure how I keep managing to get on the first plane out. But, I scrambled to the beach to get this shot of our second plane.

I'm trying hard not to preface every picture with, "of course, this doesn't do it justice!"

"Welcome" sign Katmai National Park and Preserve lies on the Alaska Peninsula 290 miles southwest of Anchorage.

I must admit feeling a bit sorry for these late season fish who didn't quite have the oomph it takes to make it upstream at this waterfall, but they kept trying.

This jumping business happened so quickly. You should see all of the photos I have with no fish in them!

Talk about your scenic locations! You can imagine our surprise when - on top of everything else, a bear started romping around the waterfall.

He was fishing, of course, and doing a fine job of it. He ate quite a few while we were watching.

Who ever heard of a bear with his own collectable trading cards?! These cards were being passed out by the friendly U.S. Park Service employees. I'm sure it comes as no surprise to you that "Mr. Always on the First Plane" got his hands on a few. Mouse over the image.

Diver has been living along the Brooks River for an estimated thirty years or more. By the late months of autumn his weight will increase to greater than 1000 pounds. Diver once ate 17 entire salmon in 45 minutes!
